What is Urology?

Urology is the branch of medicine that focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of conditions affecting the urinary system in both men and women, as well as the male reproductive organs. This includes the kidneys, ureters, bladder, prostate, scrotum, and penis.

What treatments are included in Urology?

The Urology Department at Acibadem specializes in the following areas:

  • Functional Urology: We study how the urinary system works and address problems such as involuntary urine loss and other urinary complaints.

  • Endoscopic Urology: Small cameras and instruments are used to examine and treat internal problems without major surgery. Examples include treating kidney stones, benign prostate enlargement, or removing superficial bladder tumors.

  • Reconstructive Urology: We restore damaged or malformed parts of the urinary tract.

  • Andrological Care: Our department provides comprehensive care for male sexual and reproductive health, including erectile dysfunction, fertility issues, hormonal treatments, vasectomy, and reconstructive surgery after vasectomy (vaso-vasostomy).

  • Prostate Cancer Evaluation: Using advanced imaging technology (multiparametric MRI), we detect and assess prostate cancer, in close collaboration with surrounding hospitals.

We are also an Expert Center for Electrostimulation and Neuromodulation, using electrical stimulation to treat bladder problems such as incontinence or difficulty urinating. Surgical procedures are offered for patients who cannot empty their bladder naturally and require long-term catheterization, with options to restore normal urination.

Our Approach and Specialists

Urologists use a variety of treatments to help patients, including medications, guidance on exercises or behavioral changes, surgeries, and physiotherapy to strengthen the pelvic floor muscles.

Our urologists work closely with other departments at Acibadem International Medical Center to provide the most effective care. For pelvic floor issues, such as difficulty urinating or incontinence, we collaborate closely with gynecologists.
