Dermatology is the only discipline in medicine that cover all aspects of skin-, mucosal- and hair disorders. Where medical doctors of other fields are involved with skin symptoms as a part of a certain disease their primary focus is different to that of a dermatologist. Modern dermatology combines surgery and contemplative medicine as well as cosmetic medicine.
With approximately 2.500 different skin diseases, a dermatologist has the most expertise to choose the appropriate treatment. Whether it is a surgical procedure for skin cancer in the face or a benign lump on the body, or a depth analysis of moles, eczema or acne the dermatologist will provide the optimal treatment. In some cases, a multi-discipline approach may be necessary. With over 16 different fields of medicine there this is easily organised.
