Dr. Biere has trained as a surgeon at the Zaandam Medical Center and VU medical center. His areas of interest are general surgery, gastrointestinal surgery, laparoscopic surgery (key-hole surgery) and proctology. During his training, he carried out doctoral research in the field of laparoscopic operations, next to his full-time clinical job. This resulted, among other things, in a publication in the leading medical journal The Lancet. Already in the fourth year of his education he was involved as co-supervisor in the supervision and promotion of a PhD student in the field of laparoscopic operations. In contact with his patients, Dr. Biere thinks it is important to pay attention to both the patient’s expectations and sufficient space for good communication about the diagnosis and treatment. He also actively involves his patients in the decisions that concern them.
