Mark Arts studied medicine at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam and graduated in 1999 cum laude. He did his residency neurosurgery at the Haaglanden Medical Center in The Hague and Leiden University Medical Center. In 2010 he defended his thesis on minimal invasive surgery of lumbar herniated disc. Besides his practice as neurosurgeon, Mark participated in numerous national and international clinical studies. Innovation is one of his priorities in order to improve the quality of healthcare. In 2014, for example, he was the first surgeon to implant a 3D printed titanium cage in the cervical spine. He is very practical, likes to work with his hands and with people. He enjoys his job very much, because “when you like your job, you never have to work”. As a neurosurgeon he is fully dedicated into spine and is one of the few surgeons in the Netherlands who operate on thoracic herniated disc.
