I was born and raised in Rotterdam (1976). After completing my medical degree at Utrecht University, I obtained a PhD in the field of cartilage regeneration, based on scientific research conducted at the Mayo Clinic (Rochester, MN, USA), IsoTis (Bilthoven), and the Department of Orthopaedics at UMC Utrecht. I then further specialized in orthopaedic surgery at UMC Utrecht and the St. Antonius Hospital. Since 2012, I have been working as an orthopaedic surgeon at the St. Antonius Hospital (Utrecht), where I focus on knee and shoulder conditions in the broadest sense. The setting of this hospital allows me to perform complex surgeries involving the knee and shoulder (such as multi-ligament reconstructions and revision surgery of failed joint prostheses). At Acibadem, I will focus on sports-related orthopaedic injuries of the shoulder and knee (such as cruciate ligament injuries, meniscal and cartilage issues, and shoulder instability), as well as the treatment of osteoarthritis through joint-preserving procedures (such as partial joint replacements and realignment osteotomies) and joint replacement surgeries (shoulder prosthetics).

Specialty/areas of interest

Sports Orthopaedics: with specific expertise in shoulder and knee injuries, including anterior and posterior cruciate ligament reconstructions, collateral ligament reconstructions, meniscus and cartilage surgery, tendon repair, and shoulder stabilization procedures.
Osteoarthritis Care: joint-preserving and joint-replacing surgeries, such as unicondylar knee prostheses and realignment osteotomies.
