ENT surgery involves children, adults, the elderly, men and women. That variety is what makes the profession so enjoyable for me. It’s also a profession that involves the senses: smell and hearing. Improving someone’s hearing after ear surgery or making their ear suitable for swimming is the most rewarding part of my job.
Developing a plan with the patient to alleviate their symptoms is a collaborative and sometimes challenging process. There are always multiple options, and I believe that identifying and explaining this aspect to each patient is something everyone deserves—something we call “shared decision-making.”
